Cost of Probate Application Fees

Probate court fees have risen as at 13^th July 2026 by 75%. Estates valued at £5,000 or less do not have to pay but from 13^th July all other estates will have to pay £526 which is up from £300.

The cost of additional copies of the Grant of Probate has reduced from £16 to £2 per copy.

As an aside there has been a significant hike in inheritance tax that is now £8.5 billion for the year 2025-2026, up from £8.2 billion, so it’s important to make a tax provision in your will and discretionary trusts, lifetime gifts and potentially exempt transfers.
