In the broadsheet news last weekend it was reported that there was a case of some significance whereby the wife was the breadwinner and the husband stayed at home, as she had greater earning capacity. He was awarded half of her pension on divorce and that would appear to come as some surprise.

The Court always starts from a point of equality on financial settlements and it is quite standard for the parties to share all assets equally, subject to various criteria and in particular need and contribution.
